Winter is definitely hitting us hard this weekend on the Wasatch front. With that obvious point stated, home renovations are inside the homes where it is warm. Many people who buy older homes change out all the doors to a more modern look to update the home.
A door isn’t just a door. It is also hinges, framing, door knobs, balance, and especially balance. It’s fun to remove the door. That’s called gutting. To destroy seems to always be a fun moment for those guys in my family. From then on, it takes a little bit more work.
There is measuring and cutting and the use of chisels. That’s where it gets interesting. Measuring the new framing is very important for balance. Once the new framing is balanced, it’s time to work on the door itself.
One tip is to lay the old door on top of the new door and outline for correct measurements. Mark hinge areas with a pencil. That’s going to save you a lot of time and effort measuring. Then sand down the rough edges.
Add the hinges and hang the door. If it is off, measure again and find the wrong dimensions. Take a remnant slice of 2×4 and place it on the frame and hammer onto the piece of wood as to not damage your beautiful framing. Once the measurement is correct and the door is a good fit, remove the door and paint. Once dry, place door back on the framing and add the door knob.

Home Renovation Trends are interesting. Every few years people’s needs in a home change. Back in the pioneer days on the prairie, people were happy to have a separate room to sleep in. The average home-built in the early 1900′s didn’t have dining rooms and only one bathroom. Today’s family needs have changed drastically from even ten years ago. More and more people are working from home and family time has moved from the living room to the kitchen. Thus creating the trends of today.
Kitchen renovations now include open space with working areas facing out so the chefs of the family can socialize while having fun cooking. Now days, walls are removed between the kitchen and the family room creating open, larger, and airy rooms for a better family and friend experience. Office areas are built into this new open kitchen with a desk area for work.
With rooms becoming more multi operational, creative designers are innovating rooms that the whole family uses and enjoy time together in.
